Liza Appleby is a New England based, freelance documentary photographer. For the past seventeen years, Liza has been taking pictures that reflect her love for the environment, sailboats, people, places and man-made structures. She graduated from highschool at Proctor Academy (Andover,NH) and majored in Marine Biology at the University of New Hampshire (Durham, NH). She furthered her education at the the Isle of Shoals Marine Lab (Maine) and on the 152ft. Schooner "Westward" for a Maritime Studies-Based circumnaviagation of Cape Cod, through the Sea Education Association (Woods Hole, MA). 

Liza has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Alaska, Europe, the United Kingdom, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the British and US Virgin Islands, Bahamas, and Barbados. She is in the process of creating a book and video documentary entitled "Compass Headings - A Photographic Journey by Land and by Sea".

Besides photography, Liza's other life-long passion is pleasure sailing and racing one-design sailboats. She has sailed over 4000 nautical miles, during two open-ocean deliveries of 53' yachts from the US East Coast to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Many of her photographs draw inspiration from her experience and appreciation of sailing.
